10 things to consider before you launch your course or membership in 2025
Launching a course or membership is a great way to serve more clients in a different way, as well as adding a different revenue stream to your business.
Health practitioners have only got so many hours in the day before they need to grow a team. But that’s not for everyone so considering alternative options to boost revenue can be key.
Digital products (courses, downloads, memberships) can be profitable but there are a number of important factors you should consider first when launching courses and memberships.
Here’s 10 things you should think about when planning your membership or course:
When are you looking to launch your membership? You need plenty of time so work backwards from your launch date.
Think about starting to grow your audience that you’ll launch out to e.g. social media, email list. You’ll want a good number of engaged people to sell to.
Have a clear idea of who you are targeting, what their problem is and why your membership solves this. You might want to do some market research - what else in on offer? If no-one else is doing it, why not? Think about asking your audience what they need.
Have a clear idea of the success the member will gain from your membership/course. How do they go from A to B and what are A and B? Members that are getting success from your course/membership will stay AND they will hopefully be an advocate for it
Price point - what will the membership cost? Will you launch a founding member’s offer (which is a special price for those that join when you first open)? What will the price go up to after that?
Is your membership/course available to join at all times or is it just open at certain points in the year?
Where will you host your membership?
Will you host the course or ‘core content’ on a website or other platform? Searchie, Kajabi, Teachable are all examples of platforms that can host courses and memberships
Where will the community be hosted for people to interact? Will you have a FB group? These communities can be very important for building community. It’s one reason people stay in memberships. You may decide you don’t need a community for your course.
Consider what content you’ll offer your members aside from your core content e.g. regular lives, guest speakers, regular meals plans, new recipes, challenges etc
Think about loyalty and ways to retain your members. Attracting new customers costs around 5 x that of retaining current ones.
Promoting your membership. How will you promote it when you launch but also moving forwards?
